Facial reconstruction
One technological advancement in the Civil War was facial reconstruction. The first facial reconstruction occurred during the Civil War. The first person to document the process was Carelton Burgan. This facial reconstruction saved about 30 some people during the Civil War. These plastic surgeries are now considered revolutionary. The facial reconstructions did not only help how people looked, it helped their vision, it could help teeth , and help their face regain its shape and have a temporary bone structure. This could all be done with minimal scarring in the process. These surgeries have an influence on todays plastic surgerys in many ways. If people would not have had faces reconstructed back then, people today would not be able to fix severely broken bones cleanly, some disabling birth defects, and dental issues.
